Most of us eat often throughout the day – and most of us pay so little attention to what we eat that we are hard pressed to try to remember just exactly what was in our last meal. In other words, it’s virtually impossible to remember all the food we’ve eaten. It’s a rule of life that habits are tough to change. If we’re in a rut of ending mindlessly changing to become a mindful eater won’t be easy so don’t expect it to be. We’re all very busy and we will resist the discipline of writing down everything we eat. And some people complain that food is always on their minds once they begin keeping a food journal.

If you commit to keeping a food journal, be prepared for a struggle. Just as becoming aware of your eating isn’t easy, neither is revealing your habits to yourself by writing them down. Because make not mistake, there are multiple rewards for making this effort and persisting until you succeed.

With a food journal, you will be able to see exactly what such a breakfast does to your body and eating habits. 2. People don’t truly become fat because they’re physically hungry. We have all misused food at times, eating for reasons that have no relationship to hunger. We eat when we feel emotionally negative in the hope that the food will reduce our emotional pain. And there is no way to change this dynamic until we sincerely face up to what we’re doing. We can all create a list of enjoyable activities and have it handy when we feel the urge to eat and we’re not truly hungry. Recognition is the starting place for new and healthy habits.

3. You may well create changes in your diet that improve your health but cause no personal suffering. By using your food journal, you can easily take a look at substitutes that are better for your health and fitness. For instance, if you eat a considerable amount of pasta, turning to whole wheat pasta and decreasing your portion size can lower your cholesterol and your weight. You could possibly modify one recipe at a time and notice how effectively your brand new behaviors are working out for you.

4. If you become aware of exactly what you’re eating, you may notice that you lack important nutrients. Too many choices. We’re often faced with choices that aren’t clear cut. Things are rarely all good or all bad and many factors play a role in determining the right choice. Having numerous options can be confusing and make it hard to eliminate the harmful influences.

The best way to contribute to a healthy lifestyle is to select things in life that you are certain are in your best interest. Eliminate the obvious poor choices that will be detrimental to your health and lifestyle.

Everyone knows smoking is hazardous to your health. If you are a smoker, don’t take another puff. If you drink alcohol to excess, quit or bring it down to a moderate amount. If you don’t exercise on a regular basis, now’s the time to start. The steps will make an immediate difference.

Too much information. Scientific studies are coming out all the time with more bad news. It seems that everything we like is bad for us in some way. It can become discouraging if you are trying to stay on the right path. You may feel compelled to just give up and eat and do whatever feels good.

Too many manufactured goods. A lot of the foods we eat today contain chemicals or by-products and it may not always be easy to tell. Not knowing all the ingredients that are in what you are consuming can make it hard to maintain a healthy diet.

Despite our best intentions, eating right and staying healthy can be challenging because there aren’t a lot of whole foods or organic products available at reasonable prices.

Too much stress. Stress affects everyone and it’s good to find ways to relieve it. Not all stress relievers are constructive, however. Make sure you seek out the ones that are and don’t lose sight of your goal to create a healthy lifestyle for yourself.

Comparing The Treadmill And The Elliptical Machine

Whenever I find myself in the gym – which probably doesn’t happen as often as it should – I always end up doing cardiovascular exercises for about a half an hour.

There are so many benefits to doing cardio exercises that it’s easy to see why I’m a big proponent of them. In addition to the weight loss that can result from cardio, it also helps strengthen your cardiovascular system so that your heart is stronger and your overall health is improved. I find myself having more energy, thinking more clearly, sleeping better, and being in a better mood when I’m doing cardio regularly.

Looking back at those benefits, I’m wondering why I don’t head to the gym and do some cardio every day!

Still, many people don’t feel totally informed about cardio exercises. One of the more common questions involves elliptical machines and treadmills: which has more advantages to the user and provides a better workout?

We can determine the answer to this question by looking at the benefits of each machine and comparing them each other.

Let’s look at the elliptical machine first. It provides some nice advantages compared to the treadmill.

Ellipticals provide the user with a low-impact cardio workout, which is very helpful in the long-term health of the bones and joints of the legs. Since your legs aren’t absorbing the impact of running on a hard surface, they’re not under nearly as much stress.

An additional benefit of the elliptical machine is its adjustable nature, which allows you to give the machine a steeper incline and increase the challenge level of the workout by adding more resistance.

The treadmill’s clear advantage is that for some people, it’s just easier to run on a flat surface. The elliptical is easy on your legs, but it doesn’t provide a real simulation of running as the treadmill does. This is something to consider when making the decision between the two.

The treadmill also has an advantage over the elliptical in that it saves on time. If you were to run the same distance and burn the same amount of calories on a treadmill first, then an elliptical machine, you would reach your goal more quickly on the treadmill since it takes more energy. If you need to get in and out of the gym in a hurry, this might mean that the treadmill is the better choice for you.

What Are Fad Diets?

A fad diet is a fashionable diet plan that purports to help you lose weight usually in a relatively short time. These days, medicine is too tightly regulated for them, so they have turned their attention to susceptible, despondent dieters. Most of those that take up a fad diet are overweight teens longing to look like their favourite film star.

Fad diets usually concentrate on reducing or completely cutting out carbohydrates. It is the low intake of carbohydrates that brings about the rapid loss of weight. In fact, this rapid loss is due to the quick loss of water that these low-carb diets stimulate. Much of the fat might still be there, so that when you stop the diet, your body regains its normal amount of water and the lost weight is put back on just as fast as it was discarded.

In the normal course of events, carbohydrates are the basis of energy for work and exercise, but with these fad diets, the carbs are no longer there, so the body starts to break down its store of fat. This may seem beneficial but it is not necessarily so. The ketones resulting from the breakdown of fat are excreted via urine and often increased quantities of urine, which can cause dehydration. People with certain medical conditions have to be very cautious too; diabetics, for instance.

Fad diets are popular, but they can be very damaging to your body and when they do not have the desired result in the long-term, it can be very depressing leading to comfort eating. This is why many people begin a fad diet, lose weight and are radiant for a month or two, but then slip back when they are getting near to their ideal weight. They go back to their old ways and the weight begins to come back. They become depressed, convinced that they will never be able to lose weight; they comfort eat some more, maybe giving up any hope of regaining a normal weight permanently.
